Cyrus Amangure from the Ashanti Region defied all odds to win the maiden edition of Tennis Foundation Ghana 18 and under Junior Tennis Tournament at the National Tennis Center, Accra on Saturday.
Cyrus has now booked his ticket to the main International Tennis Federation(ITF) 18 and Junior World Tour which is being organized by Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG).
The 4 Garrison Officers Mess player won all his round-robin games, firstly beating Paul Agbeve 4-0,4-1 who was the winner from the Volta Region and also beating Justin Dzemasi the runner up from the Volta Region 4-0,4-1.Then he ousted Northern Regional winner Sulemana Zakariah 5-4,5-3 before he finished his game with a win over Western Region's Norbert Asem 4-1, 4-0.
"You could feel the tension on court at the beginning. I felt a lot of emotion and tried to play a great game," said Cyrus. "I"m happy I have qualified for the ITF futures and my target going forward is to get into the finals".
4 Garrison Officers Mess tennis club Coach George Ayona also said, "in fact I'm happy Cyrus has qualified. I'm sure Cyrus will make a huge impact in the ITF juniors. We are going to prepare very well for the tournament."
The one day tournament was organized by Tennis Foundation Ghana with support from Second Serve Tennis Shop.
